Aptera is coming... I can feel the electricity in the air

The Aptera electric 3-wheeler has been gearing up to make a big splash in the USA (as you see her featured in this commercial), and I have to admit it's one of the EVs I'm most excited about seeing in person.

If you're as excited to see them as I am, then you might thing about plopping down the $500 refundable deposit to reserve one! The all electric version is scheduled to be released in the next few months.

Expect to get around 120 miles per 4 hour charge (in a standard 110 volt outlet, like your weedwacker). Also expect to NEVER VISIT A GAS PUMP AGAIN! :) The final cost is expected to be somewhere around $27,000. The first owners will be invited to the HQ in California see their new baby being born and will be given a "care and feeding" course. No word on diaper changes just yet.

If you like having the peace of mind of a diesel powered generator to keep you charged on those long distance journeys, you'll have to wait until 2010. It will cost you about $30,000 for this 300 mpg miracle.

Oh... if you'd like to know what OTHERS think about the car, check out gizmodo's post on it. Remember, most of the 46 comments are from 2007 when gas was still dancing below the $3/gal mark.
